Discernment Process for New Members

Selecting new leaders to serve on the Parish Pastoral Council is an important moment in the life of the community. Pastoral Council members are called upon to reflect on the life of the parish in light of the mission of the Church and to assist the pastor in bringing greater life and vibrancy to the parish.

The selection of parish leaders can be a prayerful moment of deliberation and decision-making which seeks to include all parishioners in a community-wide process.

The Office of Pastoral Planning provides resources to assist pastors and current Parish Pastoral Councils conduct a Discernment Process to Select New Members. This process seeks the participation of all parishioners, identifies new leaders, provides a process marked by prayer and reflection and encourages parishioners to dialogue with one another about the future of the parish.

The following files provide a background to the process and all the tools needed for Discernment.

The Office of Pastoral Planning is also able to provide parishes with facilitators and/or presenters during the Discernment Process. Please call if you are interested.
