My understanding of goals for Parish Pastoral Planning is we need to determine which of the 5 Essential Areas of Parish Life we need to focus on and then write goals for those areas. If the Parishioners want to focus on Worship, Word Service and Unity, per the info received from Assembly, then that's where we go.
But if resources are limited(money), then we'd need to focus on Stewardship to increase the revenue to fund the programs desired to meet the goals. For example, if under Word, we want o increase the opportunites for Faith Formation,
having more Bible Studies, Parish Retreats, etc.
then we'd need money to pay for the materials and the speakers who give their time for this ministry.
Seems like we can dream our dreams but in the end, we need resources to make the dreams a reality. Any thoughts??

    Hi Liz,
We can talk much more about this in person, but my initial reaction is that while resources are critical in the success of any plan, goals should be mission driven, not money driven. Once you have the goals, then you can examine resources which as you know is so much more than money (it includes all the gifts and talents of the community)and then see how you can achieve those goals with what you have. The purpose of the reflection groups is to tap into the collective wisdom of the room- ask everyone how you can do this as a parish together!
Fundraiseing can then be identified as an objective to meet a particular goal.
    I hope that helps,
    Ellen
