I am a member of Our Lady of Angels Pastoral Council. I feel very lucky to be a part of such a great group of people. Seeing how we all work so well together makes being on this council a true blessing. I believe we will have success with each hurdle because of the true dedication of all involved. -

I am a member of St. Agnes Pastoral Council. I am happy to be part of the process as we are already thrust into a consolidation of parishes with St. Peter/St. Paul/Our Lady of Pilar. We are greatful to Fr. Rob Powers for being brave enough to become our new administratoe (and eventually Pastor when the parishes "offically" combine in Sept.) We are all well aware intellectually of the need for restructuring (Priest shortage, shrinking congregations, finances, aging buildings to care for, etc) and we will get through this BUT we need all to be sensitive to the fact we are giving up a part of our lives NO A BIG PART OF OUR LIVES and although 'buildings' are not of utmost importance they are certainly part of us. Emotionally the magnificantly beautiful four walls of St. Agnes have embraced four generations of my family, ALL of the happy and sad events brought us to that building and each time we enter it we connect with those we love and have loved-we connect with our lives and those who have gone before us. As we move along, and we all know that there is much we will be called on to give up, let us remember we are dealing with faithful people whose faith has been nourished in the parishes we call home and although only buildings they are much more in the story of our individual faith.

Thank you for sharing that, Bill. St. Agnes and Sts P/P/OLP are forging a new journey together and I believe it is just that midset that will carry you through. While we cannot confine God to 4 walls, we cannot deny the emotional power of the space we create for worship, especially when it spans generations. I have learned to accept a paradox - that honoring the sacredness of the space where we worship and acknowledging the memories and connectedness we have found there actually somehow helps give us the strength to break the confines of those walls and see our faith so much larger and greater than any physical foundation. I pray that the grace of God fills all of us in the diocese and in the worldwide Church with that understanding as we continue to nurture our faith in a God larger than any of us can imagine.
In peace,

I notice that no comments have been posted since last year. I wish to comment about Implementation of Parish Ministries. We want to start a Hospitality Ministry. In the Bishop\'s Letter sent in October, 2007,he stated that a pilot program in some Parishes would begin and other Parishes would reap the benefits from this in the Fall of 2008. Are there any Parishes that have a good Hospitality Minstry currently?
Would you share with us what you do, how you got started, recruited, and trained persons interested. Do you use any materials or videos? We\'d like to reap the benefits now from other Parishes who have this going well.
Thanks!
P.S. Perhaps we can start a new topic thread for this? -

Thanks for the new thread on hospitality- it\'s a great idea and I hope we can get people to start posting more often.
Spread the word folks- the best resource you all have right now is each other!!

(ps- I responded to the hospitality question in the new thread...)
