Welcome to Pastoral Planning

Pastoral Planning seeks to enliven and foster the mission of the church in the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens through parish and cluster planning, collaboration and dialogue.

The pastoral planning process invites the people of the Diocese to imagine themselves anew in our current time. Guided by the Holy Spirit, clergy, religious and laity alike are asked to enter a time of discernment around the mission of the Church and together with the Diocesan Bishop create a dynamic, life-giving vision for our future.

Pastoral planning is built on consultation and dialogue that leads to action. All Catholics are invited to be a part of the conversation that creates our future as well as lending their gifts to the living out of our mission together.

The Office of Pastoral Planning exists to support and facilitate this essential conversation within the parishes and clusters of the Diocese and encourage action on behalf of mission. We hope that the information and conversation provided here will assist parish communities in developing a shared vision which leads to a vibrant future.

Bishop DiMarzio has asked all Catholics to “Put out into the Deep” by reflecting on our faith in light of our current environment. Pastoral Planning is a process which seeks to engage all Catholics in a conversation on our essential mission as Catholics and articulate plans to create ever more vibrant communities of faith.

The greatest asset of pastoral planning is the shared experience of pastoral councils across the Diocese. Ask a question, share an idea or learn about other parishes.
